Overall exceedingly interesting. The best part of the whole discussion is centered around what is legal and what is not.

1) Is it illegal if the site I am playing on is located in a state that is legal, whats the difference between my flying to the location and my being at the location virtually?

2) What if I dial in through a proxy server in the state of the gaming institution and then play on that computer and just view the game through my personal home PC?

Totally ambiguous as most things are for the internet. I personally think this law will be unenforceable unless the casino sets up in a state that doesn't allow gaming.

Location: USA
To answer questions 1 and 2 in one sentence.... It is illegal for any "gambling oriented" bingo site to be located in a state of the USA. They are all located offshore or in the UK where online gambling is not illegal. The "site" would be where the "server" is located, and I assure you they are in a physical location that permits them by law to be there. Costa Rica, Netherlands, UK, Antigua are just a few of the countries where servers for online gaming are located.

The law, as it stands, makes it illegal only for the financial institutions to be intsrumental in helping their account holders to transfer monies from the institution to online gambling sites. There are just a very few states who have passed laws making online gambling illegal.

I believe those would be Kentucky, New York and Indiana, but will check for sure and get back to this thread with the information I can find to verify that. Any input and/or links to information about this is greatly appreciated .

Unfortunately, without reading what was said it would be very hard to comment on it. Is there anyway you can find out where you read it and put the link in here so we can also read it?

I, personally, have heard nothing about another review of the law in July. I haven't seen anything posted on it anywhere that I have seen threads about it either in here or at other sorts of gambling forums. It would be helpful if you could remember where you saw it.

Sissy thanks, I have a sister that is in the legal field I think I am going to check and see if she has identified any loopholes into this ridiculousness.

In my opinion I wonder if the law doesn't stem so much from the religious conservatives as to the current brick and mortar industry.

But I probably should put that on another thread.

Went and did some quick research after I posted above.

Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin

Those are the individual US states that have gambling laws in effect for internet gaming. Seems to me to be a very interesting listing. At least 1/2 of them I know have gaming within their borders. I would have sworn my southern state brethren would have had at least one state on the list but nada for the bible belt.

I'm amazed that the southern states have not been in on this because they are against many things that most people enjoy.

What happened with Obama's promise to get rid of that dumb Bill? I was very excited when Obama got in as president, because the way he spoke, sounded like he really cared about changing all the dumb stuff that Bush did. But it seems all politicians are the same, and lie, lie, lie!! He has done almost nothing that he promised he would do, the troops are still fighting over seas and dying, the online gambling law is still in affect etc, etc, etc. Shame on you Obama, you are a democrat and suppose to care about what your people want, not just care about the rich people getting richer, that's something I thought only Republicans did!!! No wonder all politicians and lawyers go to hell.

Here! Here! We have the same problem here in Canada with lying politicians. Our Provincial Premier promised there would be no increase in taxes and that was the ticket he rode in on.... he's riding out on an A.Z.Z. because since he has been in we have more taxes put on us than ever before. I have always voted Liberal but not anymore... he solved that problem for me.

Sounds like the U.S. and Canada are getting much closer when it comes to taxing but too bad they can't get together when it comes to gambling. I'll take Canada's laws anyday over ours.
