Hello there,
May I say that I have found BPU very interesting & helpful.
I don't klnow if you can answer my question or not but thought I would ask it any way.

Can a UK bingosite pay a UK cm £5.50 per hour yet pay a USA cm ( doing exactly the same job ) $5.50 per hour ? Just because they are American & they star that pay is £5.50 ph.

Was just wondering if this was legal in the UK... sounds to me more like discrimination :(

Thank you taking the time & keep up the good work.

Hi Smoochies1, Welcome to BPU!
£5.50 converts to: 1.5179 X 5.50 = $8.35 a $2.85 difference. I agree this is odd! I can only speculate here, but perhaps there is a misunderstanding in interpreting the 2 rates. UK Sites are regulated and I’m sure would do nothing illegal.

If I were a US Cm that worked for a UK site that does this, I would be asking my supervisor if this is true and why the difference. Let us know if you find anything out.

I have meant to get back to you sooner but time has past me by.......

The CM in question was a friend of mine...... She was told on more than 1 occasion that the pay was in GBP & was 5.50ph, so after making sure this was correct, she left her old site & started work for this UK bingo site ( don't know if I can say the name or not )

Anyway, when her 1st pay arrived she had been paid not £5.50ph but $5.50ph. She questioned this countless times & was told that because she was American she would be paid $5.50ph & not £5.50ph converted into USD.

Needless to say she had left her previous job for much less pay, had she known this beforehand she would have stayed where she was!!

I thought this was discriminatory to say the least as she was doing exactly the same job as a UK CM but was getting paid so much less for it. I think this treatment is appaulling!!

Anyway, she has since left the site because of the above & is desperately seeking work as a CM.
She has a great personality & 8 years experience as a CM.... so if anyone out there knows of any openings..... would you please let me know.

Thank you so much BPU but it does look like this site can pay whatever they want in salaries. ](*,)

The only reason that I can see for the discrepancy is that the cost of living is different. In the UK 5.50 pounds will purchase the same as $5.50 in the U.S. It doesn't excuse them but that is the only reason I can see that happening.

Thank you Pokerprincess for your reply.

Personally I wouldn't buy that excuse.... If a UK site pays £5.50ph that should be across the board & converted accordingly as they all do the same jobl.

No one will ever convince me that this isn't disrimination!!!!!

I totally agree with you that it has to be paid the same to anyone who works for the site. For instance if I went to work in Canada and they were paying me in Canadian dollars then I would know what I was being paid. If I wanted to be paid in U.S. dollars I would find a job in the U.S.

If I was Canadian and working in the U.S. I would expect to be paid in U.S. dollars as well. So just because it is online there shouldn't be discrepancies like that.

Oh SpunkyPepper I totally agree with you but I was just trying to think of why they would think they could get away with it.
