Congressman John Campbell, sponsor of a federal bill that seeks to regulate online gaming within the United States, is confident that his new bill - the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act - will pass a House vote, despite a similar bill by Congressman Barney Frank running out of time during the Congressional calendar last year.
HR1174 was introduced to the U.S House of Representatives in March by Congressman Campbell and is co-sponsored by Representatives Barney Frank, Peter King and Ed Perlmutter. The federal bill provides for the licensing of internet gambling activities by the Secretary of the Treasury.
Rep. Campbell says that as members of Congress learn more about how many U.S residents are currently gambling online illegally and without any protections, it is his hope that they will support his efforts to allow these people to legally enjoy this pastime, create U.S-based jobs, protect the consumer with regulation and raise billions in new taxes for the federal government.
Rep. Campbell will join a political insight panel to discuss online gaming legislation in the U.S alongside Senator Lou Correa and Councilmember Michael A Brown at GiGSE which takes place later this month at San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel between May 17th and 19th.
